CFX 33 at Target Center continues to take shape as matchmaker Gavin Rydell announced three fights today. Tickets for CFX 33: Minnesota vs. Japan, which is April 28, are on sale now through ticketmaster.com and at the Target Center box office. Tickets also are available through participating fighters or by entering their "fighter code" at ticketmaster.com. Tickets start at $30 and go up from there. Rydell said only a handful of ringside seats remain and table seating for the event already has sold out. Rydell was able to announce three fights today, including a big amateur showdown, a rising pro prospect and a Bellator veteran. The most significant addition tot he card today was Minnesota native Carey Vanier, who is fighting outside of Bellator for the first time since 2009. Vanier (8-3) was part of Bellator's first 155-pound tournament. The former collegiate wrestling All-American defeated Joe Duarte in the opening round of the tournament at Bellator 13, before falling to Toby Imada in the semifinals during Bellator 17 (May 2010). Vanier, who trained extensively with Greg Jackson in New Mexico, has not fought since March of 2011, when he suffered a loss to Lloyd Woodard at Bellator 37. Vanier is set to return to action against prospect Jordan Larson, who fights out of South Dakota. He's compiled a 3-0 record as a pro and also was unbeaten as an amateur. "Jordan Larson is a very tough kid, and he jumped at the chance to fight a veteran like Carey," Rydell said. "He's a scrapper, a well-rounded fighter. He doesn't have the wrestling like Carey, but he's a tough, young kid who's coming here to pull off the upset. "And we were thrilled to be able to add a Bellator veteran like Carey as he tries to work his way back to the big-time. Carey's still a young guy with lots of potential." Also added to the card today was prospect Tony Martin, who trains with Brock Larson at his new gym in St. Cloud. Martin is 1-0 as a professional, but he's considered one of the state's best prospects. As an amateur, Martin fought just twice, fights that lasted a combined 48 seconds. In his second fight, Martin scored a knockout in just 10 seconds, a knockout that earned the MNMMANEWS Knockout of the Year Award for 2011. Martin made his pro debut recently, finishing veteran Bruce Johnson in the first round. At Target Center Martin will meet a fellow prospects — Kuchlong Kuchlong, who fights out of South Dakota. Kuchlong is 3-0 as a professional, and he's got an extensive Thai Boxing background. "Kuchlong Kuchlong is one of South Dakota's best prospects; his coaches rave about him," Rydell said. "He's the current Thai Boxing Association champion from here in the Midwest. So I'm excited to see his striking. But Tony is under Brock's wing, and Brock continues to be impressed by Tony every day in the gym. If he continues to improve, he's going to be moving to a major promotion probably by next year." Finally, an amateur showdown between Richard Rodriguez and Ryan Sweezer has been added to the card. Rodriguez, who is a former Owatonna wrestler, turned in another impressive performance last weekend, claiming the Brutaal Genesis 135-pound title with his submission victory over Jake Milkanin at Treasure Island Resort and Casino. Rodriguez is now 5-0 as an amateur. Sweezer is 4-3 as an amateur, but he looked like one of Minnesota's most improved fighters late last year. He's riding a two-fight winning streak after a slick submission win over Jamel Long in just 58 seconds last August. Sweezer followed that up with a quick win over Nick Merkley in December (submission, strikes). "I love this fight," Rydell said. "Richard is one of the best wrestlers at 135, and Ryan is super slick on the ground, especially for a kid who hasn't had as much training as some of these guys. Ryan has a lot of potential, he's eager to learn, and he wants to fight the best amateurs. It's great for him to get to fight down at 135, too, because he's had to take some fights out of his weight class. I really think it will be an exciting amateur fight for the fans." Rydell said to expect another major announcement about the show coming soon, pertaining to a couple of veteran heavyweights. Contracts weren't signed when at the time of this release. "As soon as it's locked in, we'll announce it; it's a fight a lot of fans have been asking for," Rydell said.
