FARIBAULT — Looking for a lightweight prospect out of Minnesota? Well, Brutaal Genesis promoter Nick Gamst may have found one Friday night at his amateurs-only show in Faribault.

Rose Creek native and former Southland High School football player Grant Meany turned in the most impressive performance of the night, finishing the much more experienced Adam Techau just 1:26 into the first round.

Meany and Techau came out slinging leather. Techau actually had Meany on the ground and was in good position. But Meany used a sweep to get back to his feet. From there, Meany locked up and slammed Techau twice. The second slam resulted in Meany landing in top position. A flurry of punches ended the fight.

“I just want to keep moving up,” Meany said in the cage after the fight. “I’ll fight whoever. Doesn’t matter.”

The first ever Brutaal show in Faribault delivered the anticipated mix of skill levels from its amateur fighters. Several fights didn’t make it out of the first minute, let alone the first round.

There was one three-round war, though. Chris McCalister and Zack Konklen duked it out for three full rounds. The only bad news for the fans was that no winner was determined.
